Vaccines for Kittens & Cats

Vaccines are essential to keep your pets safe. Here at Golf Glen Veterinary Clinic we provide all the vaccines required by law for kittens and cats. In addition to mandatory vaccines, our team will dedicate time to becoming familiar with your pet in order to decide what additional vaccines they need. When should my cat or kitten be vaccinated?

The timeline for feline vaccinations are made for indoor cats or kittens. If you have an outdoor pet the schedule may be a little different and you should contact a veterinarian for guidance. Kittens should begin vaccinations at 6-weeks-old and continue until they are 16-weeks-old.

At 6- to 10-weeks-old your kitten should receive their FVRCP (Panleukopenia, Rhinotracheitis, Calicivirus) shot.

At 11- to 14-weeks-old: FVRCP and Feline Leukemia vaccines

At 16-weeks-old and over they should get vaccinated against: FVRCP, Feline Leukemia and Rabies.

Adult cats should receive booster shots one year after completing the kitten series of vaccines. Booster shots may include FVRCP, Rabies, Leukemia and Feline Distemper.

What should I expect when my cat or kitten is vaccinated?

Your pet’s reaction to receiving their vaccines may be different from others. Vaccines play a very important role in protecting your furry friend from many diseases. Plus, the chances of them having side effects after vaccination are small. Your cat or kitten may experience lethargy, loss of appetite, fever or swelling at the injection site. These effects are completely normal and should go away within 48 hours.
