Surgical Services for Pets

Surgeries can improve your pet’s quality of life. At Golf Glen Veterinary Clinic our trained professionals take great care in carrying out surgeries. Our veterinarians are experienced in using various diagnostic tools and providing treatments with surgery. We use the latest technology to monitor our patients and the most advanced techniques. We treat our patients with compassion and do our best to ensure the experience is comfortable and stress-free for you and your pet.

What happens before surgery?

Before each surgery our team will perform a pre-anesthetic blood screen. By running a blood test our veterinarians will determine how your loyal companion will respond to surgery and recover. Our team will also check to ensure your pet’s liver and kidneys are functioning properly. (Kidney and liver function are important as it determines how much anesthesia is safe for your pet.) Our veterinarians will also check records for pre-existing conditions that may affect the surgery.

What surgeries does your clinic offer?

The surgeries our clinic offers include: spay/ neuter, dental procedures and orthopedic surgery.

What preparation does my pet need for surgery?

There are two general guidelines to follow when your pet has surgery:

  • Ensure they are fully vaccinated and have proof (proof will be with us, if your pet is a long-time patient)
  • The morning of the procedure ensure that your pet does not eat or drink

Any additional precautions will be outlined by the veterinarian prior to surgery.

How can I care for my pet post-surgery?

When your pets undergoes a procedure they will require special care for a smooth recovery. When surgery is completed we may monitor your pet for some time before we send them home for recovery. Our veterinarians will work with you to develop a pain management program specifically catered to your pet. At home you should make your pet’s life a little easier as they get back to their normal health.

  • Encourage them to eat. Some post-surgery medications need to be taken with a meal. Your pet also needs food that will give them nourishment and energy.
  • Make them comfortable. This could mean making their beds more comfortable or anything that will keep them relaxed.
  • Avoid excessive movements. Your pets need enough rest in order to recover. We will inform you if your pets need exercise to speed up recovery.
  • Follow and check-in with your vet for post-surgery instructions. We advise you to keep our team informed about any progress or concerns you have about your pet’s recovery. If you need additional information call us at 905.727.3003.

Preventing and Treating Litter Box Issues

Using the litter box properly is one of the universal requirements that most cat owners have. When Kitty uses the box properly, it’s something that we don’t pay much attention to, besides the daily scooping. When there is a problem however, and Kitty has chosen a different location for his or her toileting needs, this can be a huge strain on the relationship that cats enjoy with their owners (and can result in relinquishment to a shelter or euthanasia).
